My Background…

I am a Mixed Media Artist based in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire.

For several years, I have worked as a Freelance Artist and Art Tutor at Cheshire Arts for Health, with experience in running a wide range of mindful Art and Craft classes and workshops to promote positive wellbeing for both adults and children through creativity.

After graduating from University with an Art and Design Degree, I worked within several creative roles, where I moved to London to work at The Royal Academy of Arts. After which, I learnt new creative skills working for the textile designer Kazaski. Working for Kazaski allowed me to explore the boundless opportunities working with felt and other textiles within Art & Fashion, producing work for London stores such as Harrods, Liberty and Harvey Nichols and experiencing the creative sensation of London and Paris Fashion Week.

I then managed the Craft Workshop at Bag Books in Fulham. Here I also had the opportunity to help provide creative work experience opportunities for children and adults with disabilities, working alongside them and supporting their needs, as well as giving them the confidence to achieve new skills and opportunities with positive, fun and creative experiences.

My love of art began from a very young age, growing up on a farm and taking inspiration from nature and the countryside around me. This rural upbringing played with my senses and influenced my creativity, being surrounded by natural found objects and materials foraged from around the farm. Using my hands and bonding with so many natural tactile treasures really sparked my creativity in wanting to think outside the box with what I could create.

Childhood holidays were spent weaving with dried grasses, hay and bailor twine, making hand-painted brooches with pieces of slate, and turning reels of wire from the cow shed into sculptures. Observing the colours, textures and the shape of flowers gave me a love of the botanical colour palette and an appreciation for specific colour combinations.

Nature continues to grow in my work as I produce floral landscapes in an impressionistic style, layering and splashing paint with my signature blue colour tones. The harmonious colours I use play an integral part in my work, with purples, blues and greens providing a sense of calm and relaxation within a painting and pops of warm reds, oranges and magenta pinks giving a feeling of energy and joy.

I am happy when a piece of art comes to life. I feel like I’m stepping into my own peaceful world!

I am forever discovering the endless possibilities of watercolours, acrylics, inks, and pastels, often combining these together with textiles, wood and different surfaces.

As well as painting, exploring different organic arts and crafts has always been an escape for my own wellbeing. Working with my hands is the only way to switch off from everyday life, reduce stress levels and lose myself in my own creativity.  I experiment with all the senses, with nature at the core. Making handmade paper with seeds and dried flowers, origami shapes and forms, willow weaving, flower pounding, and playing with the translucency and vibrant colours of stained glass, all ignites the creative spark.

I enjoy the process of planning creative workshops and experiences, making it my mission to bring nature inspired creativity to promote positive wellbeing at Cheshire Arts for Health and to a whole range of different organisations, care providers and settings and to help others find joy in so many calming, creative and mindful activities.

I also do painting commissions and love to create a tranquil, peaceful painting for your home.
